ADVENT 2024 OVERVIEW
Each year we pause for one month in order to fix our minds and hearts upon the significance of the first advent. With this, we also hope to create a longing for the advent to come. This year, as we celebrate advent, we want to focus upon Jesus our King. What does it mean that Jesus is King? As we sit in the middle of an election year, what does it mean that Jesus is the One who truly reigns? As we enter the most commercialized season in the world, what does it mean that Jesus reigns? At Christmas, our culture draws our attention away from Christ the King and leads us to build up our own kingdoms with our own riches and pleasures. The focus of our culture is upon self and satisfying oneself with these possessions and pleasures. We want to rebel from our cultural pulls and fix ourselves upon worshiping the One True King of Kings. We want to hope, not in a political leader, but to hope in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, we must closely abide in Jesus. Each week of the advent season we will explore what it means that Jesus is our King. Our hope is to see Jesus ruling in every part of our lives. Additionally each week, as an act of rebellion from the world and an act of devotion to Jesus, we will embrace a different means of abiding in Jesus. We hope to go through this season worshiping only Him and building up His Kingdom, not our own.
